School Profile

 

School of Economics and Management at Inner Mongolia University, (former Department of Economics) was founded in 1978,which has become an important base for cultivating senior talents in economics and management in Inner Mongolia and even in western China after 40 years’ development. The school is listed as one of the key disciplines in the “211 Project” and “The Project of enhancing the comprehensive strength of Mid-West Colleges and Universities”.

The school covers two major disciplines of Economics and Management, including 6 departments (Department of Economics, Department of Applied Economics, Department of Business Administration, Department of Management Science, Department of Finance, and Department of Accounting), Documentation Center, and Integrated Experimental Center for Economics and Management (The Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Inner Mongolia;). The school also has 1 research base for Philosophy and Social science in Inner Mongolia named “The Sustainable Development Research Base of Inner Mongolia Regional Economy”, 1 research center approved by the Department of Science and Technology of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region named “The Engineering Technology Research Center of Geographic Economic Data for Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region”, and other research institutions, such as The Urban and Real Estate Research Center, The China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Research Institute, The National Economic Research Center, The Regional Economy Research Center, The Enterprise Case Research Center, The Energy Economy and Strategic Management Research Center, and The Industrial Economy Research Center. The School established a"Center for Chinese Time Use Survey and Research ",which is part of "China University Data Alliance". The school co-built 1 laboratory of behavioral and experimental economics with Ural Federal University: The Sino-Russian Joint Laboratory of Behavioral Economics. An engineering research center (engineering laboratory) on big data analysis technology was co-established with School of Computer, School of Mathematics at Inner Mongolia University.

The School has an authorization base for Doctoral degree of Applied Economics in first-level discipline and is undertaking the task of constructing the authorization base for Doctoral degree of Minority Economics. It has 2 MSc programs of the first-level discipline (Applied Economics, Business Administration), 2 MSc programs of Political Economics and China's Minority Economics, as well as 3 MSc programs of professional degree (MBA (including EMBA), MPAcc and MF). The School has 10 undergraduate majors (Economics, International Economics and Trade, Finance, Financial Engineering, Accounting, Financial Management, Business Administration, Management Science, Human Resources Management, and Marketing), and also 4 double-bachelor-degree majors (Finance, Accounting, Business Management, and International Economic and Trade). Political economics is the key discipline of the autonomous region.

Currently, the School has a total of 100 faculty members, including 77 full-time teachers (15 professors, 26 associate professors, and 56 teachers with Doctoral degree), 2 teaching assistants, and 21 staff for Party Management and service. Among them, there is 1 winner of “the National Millions of Talents Program”, 2 winners of “the Program for New Century Exemplary Talents” of the Ministry of Education, 4 winners of “Grassland Talent Program” of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 4 winners of “New Era 321 Talents Program”, 2 winners of “National Accounting Leader Program”, 1 winner of “Fulbright Visiting Scholar”, and three teams supported by the “Grassland Talent Program” of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The team of "The Sustainable Development of Economics for the Resource-Oriented Industry and Resource-Rich Area" was selected as "The Development Plan for the Innovation Teams" of Ministry of Education in 2012, and obtained the rolling support in 2016.

The School has always taken personnel training as the basic task and strengthened the reform on teaching to improve the quality of personnel training according to the characteristics of disciplines and subjects. At present, the School has 2 Brand Majors (Economics, and Finance), 3 Excellent Courses of the autonomous region (Management Accounting, Macro-Economics; Theory and Practice of Investment Banking), and 1 Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of the autonomous region. The School presently has 1288 undergraduates (including 52 foreign students), 180 academic graduate students (including 36 foreign students), 740 graduate students of professional degree, and 502 undergraduates of double-bachelor-degree.

The School always emphasizes the scientific research and social service. Since 2011, 71 books and 540 papers have been published, and 10 of them in SCI, SSCI, 166 of them in CSSCI, CSCD.42 grants of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Social Science Foundation of China were approved and , as well as 200 projects of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The School developed a wide range of academic exchanges and cooperation with universities and research institutions from United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Russia, Mongolia and other countries. The School built a Sino-Japanese Research Center for GIS Application, Regional Economy and Industry with Aichi University of Japan, signed a strategic cooperation agreement and built “Sino-British Enterprise Digital Laboratory” with the Warwick University of UK, and built a Sino-US Center of Ecology, Energy and Sustainable Science (SUCCESS) with Arizona State University of USA. The School also developed and strengthened the cooperation with National University of Mongolia, Mongolian University of Science and Technology, Mongolian Academy of Science, Ural Federal University, Russian Academy of Science, Russian Buryat State University. In recent years, some international cooperation projects were funded by International Development Research Center of Canada (IDRC), Department for International Development (DFID), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Aichi University and Cultural Exchange Center from USA.
